Fish Species Squid

Southern Calamari are much sort after for their eating quality and are high on every fisherman’s bait list. Calamari can be caught easily from both a boat and land based. Calamari provide most of Victorian fisherman with enjoyment and are a great species to target with the whole family.

Southern Calamari – Squid are cephalopods they have distinct heads they have large eyes 8 arms and 2 tentacles they are rapid swimmers with jet propulsion. Squid are chromatophores that can change colour and produce black ink when threatened as a defence mechanism. Squid have three hearts. Calamari are the best eating quality whilst Arrow Squid are not so good on the table but are exceptional Yellow Tail King Fish baits especially live. Calamari have a short life span of only 365 days and can eat up to ten times their body weight in just 1 day.

Bag Limit Southern Calamari can be sometimes very easily caught so it is important to adhere to the bag limits in Victoria. The Bag limit is 10 Southern Calamari per person per day. 

Eating Qualities – Southern Calamari are highly regarded and on the menu for most Victorians. Their texture is soft, white and flavoursome when cooked. The obvious way to cook Calamari is rings, with its high table quality it is used in many recipes for EG; Squid Ink Pasta, Stuffed Squid, Marinara to name a few.

    Hello Members after almost 2 years of hard work and fighting covid to try and make this possible, I have decided to wrap up this site however, i won't be leaving those that have used their full year and for those that have months to come, I will be keeping you upto date with what I see in my fishing adventures from now until next tuna season, for those that are members currently you won't be charged from here on in and won't need to worry about your mebership expiring we are back as of today and will have fun with fishing and providing generous information each week, please stay in check from here on in and make sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel as we shift over, but in the meantime, i will give you guys some very important information each week to help you make your desitions when and where you should go fishing I hope you have enjoyed the many vidoes and 100s of GPS Marks so far please ensure to listen what I have learnt you and provided I will make sure to add some guidance
