Port Phillip Bay covers 1930 Sq Klm and the shoreline is approximately 264 Klm long the maximum depth is 33 meters so this a very fishable bay. To the West is Geelong, to the East is Patterson river up to the North is the city of Melbourne and to the Southern end is Rye. The great sands between Queenscliff and Rosebud offer some of the best Gummy Shark, Whiting and Squid Fishing. Marine Parks and Marine farms are best found on charts and chart plotters and, should be avoided. The entrance to Port Phillip Bay is best known as the ‘RIP’ because of its very strong tide. Traveling through the RIP is only for the well-seasoned boater. This area is well known for its Yellow Tail King Fish and Southern Bluefin Tuna. Boat ramps are dotted around Port Phillip Bay and are free to use. Shipping movement can be very busy at times and awareness is a key factor.
